When first starting on your curly journey you might be overwhelmed. Maybe you have done all the research in the world and don't know what is most needed, or maybe you have no idea where to start. I am here to help.
Where to start?
First, know your curly type. This will help to know what products will work best with your curls. this information can also be useful when learning to wash, style, and protect your curls at night.
Check your "at home" inventory
There is a good chance that a handful of these items are already in your cupboard. check the ingredients to make sure these products are curly approved. if they are, learn to use them, There is no need to go out and buy a whole new bottle of shampoo. Remember, this whole journey will be an experiment.
Here is a list of 8 things you’ll want when starting out
Shampoo
Conditioner
Cream
Mouse or gel
Diffuser
Hair clips
Silk pillowcase
Camera
Remember to capture your journey!
Why?
Shampoo and conditioner are a given. This is what cleans our hair. Any kind of curl cream or leave-in condition is essential to dry curls. It keeps the curls hydrated and soft. Did you know some women can go 2 weeks without washing their hair? a big part of that is mouse and or gel. This is what holds the curls in place. DIffusing your hair is healthier and doesn't leave your hair weighed down. I would much rather spend money on a diffuser than a volume pump every few months. this is why it is number 5 on my list. Hair clips. Whether you have long curls or short, these hair clips are a must when styling and for sleeping.
They are useful when putting in pineapple, or for your sleeping cap. Protecting your hair at night is game-changing when you have curls. Going along with protection at night is a silk pillowcase. This is a MUST!!! Invest in a silk or satin pillowcase. The silky feel allows your hair to glide around instead of being pulled resulting in damaged hair. Silk is also better for your skin and stays cool throughout the night!
